Thank you for taking the time to look over our terms and conditions for membership at no.w.here. It is important that you read this document fully before paying the membership fee and arriving onsite at no.w.here.

By paying the membership fee you are automatically agreeing to no.w.here’s terms and conditions as per this document.*
This membership document is designed to provide you with:
An overview of how no.w.here operates and what you can expect from your membership.
A guide to the facilities and services no.w.here offers to members.
An outline of no.w.here policies including our environmental policy, racial equality policy, health and safety, crediting system, and terms of termination.
no.w.here is a not for profit artist run collective, founded in 2004, situated across two floors in a former leather and fur warehouse in Bethnal Green, London. no.w.here supports film production alongside critical art practices engaged with the moving image. As an artist run space no.w.here has supported the production of artist works, run multiple workshops and critical discussions and actively curated performances, screenings, residencies, publications, events and exhibitions.
no.w.here emphasises the importance of member and community participation, and working onsite at no.w.here is a self sufficient, DIY experience. no.w.here functions as an open studio in which one works autonomously.
no.w.here Has Four Aims:
To create a space where artists can pursue an independent working practice.
To enable access to a film lab run with a high level of professionalism.
To pass on knowledge to artists about film materials, printing techniques, image and chemical manipulation, shooting and editing on film.
To support artists to shoot, edit and complete their films at a minimal cost, subsidised for members.
no.w.here’s Lab Facilities
no.w.here is fitted with a darkroom, separate areas for contact printing and hand processing, and an editing and general workspace area.
no.w.here’s facilities include several steenbeck 16mm editing tables, an optical J-K printer, a Debrie Matipo 16mm contact printer, a light box and re-wind arms, a film breakdown bench, and Super8, 16mm and 35mm hand processing Lomo tanks, Bolex 16mm cameras, and 16mm and 8mm film projectors.
Membership allows you to use the facilities at no.w.here for the period of 12 months beginning from the day we receive your membership fee.
Members receive 30% off the full price of workshops, and 20% off the full price of film stock and supplies.
Discounts are also offered with a range of external partners however they are subject to change at the discretion of the organisation or individual offering the discount and are not controlled by no.w.here. You are required to clearly state that you are a member of no.w.here and you need to request the discount based on this.
As a member you may also book one to one tuition or mentorship with no.w.here staff at an hourly rate. Please request costs and discuss your needs with us.
Members are encouraged to participate and become part of the no.w.here community. Becoming a member means that you have access to no.w.here’s national and international networks.
A programme of screenings and exhibitions by international artists and filmmakers takes place within the context of regular critical forums. no.w.here also regularly puts together programmes of members work for screenings in festivals and at events, you will be emailed when these opportunities arise.
USE OF THE FACILITIES
Membership entitles you to use of the lab facilities and equipment at no further cost providing that you can demonstrate competency in their use.
Compulsory Training on Major Equipment
In addition, members must have undertaken a course or tuition in the following pieces of film equipment in order to use them: Optical Printer; Rostrum Camera; Contact Printer; Bolex 16mm Cameras. Under no circumstances will access be provided unless you have undertaken the training and proven your competency in its use. Training insures that your health and safety needs are met and prevents damage to the equipment.
Training including via workshops and one to one tuition is an additional cost to be covered by the member.
In order to hand process film onsite, you must have undertaken a darkroom induction session which includes chemical mixing, instruction in loading a lomo tank, hand processing, and a health and safety overview. This induction is charged at an additional rate of £20 which is payable upon booking the session.
Photochemical Purchase & Storage
Members must purchase and supply their own chemicals for use onsite. no.w.here can provide information about where to make purchases, can supply you with a chemical component list and also a procedure sheet upon request.
Photochemicals must be stored in industry standard photographic chemical bottles and must be clearly labelled. Chemicals may only be left onsite for the duration of your booking and must be taken off site immediately afterwards. Chemicals left here outside of these conditions and bottles left unlabelled will be disposed of.
Booking & Scheduling Policy
Bookings are compulsory in order to use the facilities and equipment.
Bookings can be made by email or phone and it is advisable to book as far in advance as possible.
Members can book up to three consecutive days on a piece of equipment.
At least 48 hours notification is required if you need to cancel your booking.
CONDITIONS OF MEMBERSHIP
Please consider the below issues.
Members must respect no.w.here’s property and adhere to the following:
Exercise all reasonable skill, care, and diligence when handling no.w.here property and using its facilities.
Ensure that any loss or damage to the equipment at no.w.here is reported immediately so that appropriate action can be taken.
Comply with any instruction given to you by no.w.here staff members.
Comply with no.w.here health and safety policies.
Understand that all damages and breakages must be paid for.
Ensure that you remove all your property from the lab at the end of each day.
No smoking inside the building, and drink and food are prohibited in proximity to the equipment.
If you see unsafe equipment or practices please report it to staff immediately.
Report any incident to a member of staff immediately.
Members must respect no.w.here’s staff and community and adhere to the following:
Respect the advice of the staff, and their decision on use of equipment or facilities is final.
Treat all staff, members, visitors and no.w.here community respectfully.
No.w.here cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to a member’s belongings left on the premises.
Members must comply with our crediting policy:
Copyright – You own full copyright for work produced at no.w.here, however no.w.here has the right to reproduce images of work created at the lab for publicity purposes.
Crediting – no.w.here subsidises the facilities, equipment and services that members use. Therefore you must fully credit no.w.here on any film or work made at the lab as follows: Produced at no.w.here www.no-w-here.org.uk.
no.w.here requests a selection of images of each of our members' work. We request these images so we can accurately represent our current members and their work, so we can have an understanding of our members’ practice, background, and the areas of artistic or film production they are involved with.
Without prejudice to any of it’s rights (whether under this agreement or not) no.w.here shall be entitled to terminate this agreement with immediate effect at any time before the expiry of the term if you:
Commit any act that, in the opinion of no.w.here staff brings no.w.here as an organisation into disrepute or prejudices the production or successful exploitation of any material produced by no.w.here.
Commit any act of dishonesty, theft, or extreme and gross negligence.
Incur any liability to any third party on no.w.here’s behalf.
Make any statement or express any opinion on no.w.here to any representative of the media, without prior knowledge and consent of no.w.here staff.
Unreasonably and to the detriment of no.w.here exploit, or use for your own gain, your membership of no.w.here without the knowledge and consent of staff.
Behave inappropriately or disrespectful to staff and other users of the lab.
Upon termination of this agreement no.w.here reserves the right to refuse admission. Any person who fails to adhere to the above rules will also have their membership terminated without refund. no.w.here accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to all and any films, film material, media and any work made at the lab.

OPENING HOURS & CONTACT
no.w.here is open Tuesday – Friday 10am–1pm and 2pm-6pm.
no.w.here operates a booking system at the lab for using the facilities and equipment which is done on a first come, first served basis. For bookings for the lab facilities and equipment, tuition, darkroom inductions or for any other query please contact firstname.lastname@example.org 0207 729 4494.
Workshop bookings are made directly through no.w.here’s online store and are filled on a first come, first served basis. nowhereshop.bigcartel.com
Whilst every effort is made to accommodate artists into our weekly schedule this is not always possible so it is advised that you book ahead to book to use the facilities.
